Air Gap Style                                                                                   Non Air Gap Style

If your sink backs up, your RO filter can be damaged.  There is a small chance that water can back up into your RO system potentially decreasing the RO life.    Non-Air Gap Filters have a single tube instead of three so they are easier to install. Gurgling sounds are not typically noticed with this style of faucet.
The Air Gap Sale Conforms with US plumbing codes.  In addition, if your sink backs up, your RO filter can is protected.  Instead of water backing up into your RO system, a small amount of air is introduced.  Air Gap Filters have two additional tubes that extend into the Facet base that helps prevent a backup from causing harm to your filter.  Installation requires a larger hole and sometimes a wider base.  It is common to hear gurgling sounds when your sink is running because there is an air gap in your discharge line.  Some cities require air gap style dispensers.
