Description

What unit should I choose for our home?

  • Price vs CQR – Balancing cost and performance.  CQR is a rating assigned by Clarus Water Systems to estimate the efficiency of removing contaminants.  A high number = more contaminants removed. This number reflects the variety of components removed and is frequently lower than percent removal.
  • Price vs RR – Most units have a small tank that allows quick access to treated water.  Most tanks are in the 3-gallon range, which is enough for most families.   If you use the entire tank at once, the Recovery rate is the time it takes to fill the tank with one gallon of water.
  • Initial Price vs RC – Filters must be replaced every 6-12 months to optimize water quality.  This does not include longer-life items like Membranes and UV components.
  • Water Waste – No Pump – lowest cost, Passive Pump – No power required, Active Pump – Require power- Most Efficient
  • NSF, CSA vs. Unregistered – NSF has three standard categories: 42, 53, and 58, and Canada has one: B483.1.  NSF or CSA will register a device if specific claims are made and the unit is subjected to third-party testing to ensure compliance.  Testing and filing are expensive, so be prepared to pay a 50% premium for NSF-tested equipment.
